The World’s Largest Truck Convoy
for Special Olympics – Alabama

The mission of the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) is to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement.

Help to Change the Lives of Nearly 14,000 Special Olympics Athletes, their Families, and Communities.

The mission of the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) is to raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics movement. LETR is the largest public awareness vehicle and grass-roots fundraiser for Special Olympics. Known honorably as “Guardians of the Flame”, law enforcement members and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” into the Opening Ceremony of local competitions, and into Special Olympics State, Provincial, National, Regional and World Games. Annually, more than 97,000 dedicated and compassionate law enforcement members carry the “Flame of Hope,” symbolizing courage and celebration of diversity uniting communities around the globe.

The Truck Convoy® is a unique one-day celebration of the trucking industry and its support of Special Olympics. Local law enforcement from across Alabama makes special dispensation and escort a convoy of trucks from Birmingham to Gadsden to raise awareness and money for over 14,000 Special Olympics Athletes in Alabama.

The truckers will meet at a staging location on John Rogers Drive in Birmingham and will be escorted in a convoy to the Petro Truck Stop on Highway 77 in Gadsden. There they will be welcomed by the Special Olympics community – athletes, families, friends, colleagues, law enforcement officers, and the organizations, companies and agencies that make up the trucking industry. A celebration – a picnic, awards ceremony, etc. will be held to recognize participating truckers and the support of the trucking industry. The celebration is designed to send a message: “Thank you, Truckers for your support of Special Olympics athletes and for keeping our communities moving!”

Frequently Asked Questions

Why a convoy?

Inspired by the powerful impact Special Olympics had on his life through his participation in the Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR), combined with his family’s involvement with the trucking industry, Norm Schneiderhan, a Corporal with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, created the Truck Convoy, a one-day celebration of the trucking industry to help raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics.

In 2018, LETR sponsored Truck Convoys will take place in twenty-eight states and four Canadian provinces.

When does it start?

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s,

Where does it start & where does it end?

This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from a line in section 1.10.32.
